Chuck and Blair and Dan as their Fairy-godmother

I found it so amusing how Chuck and Blair were paralleled again in this episode and were connected through Dan. I’m not a Dan fan at all but it was interesting how this matched up.

First, Dan is wrong about both of them in the episode. He believes that Chuck is doing another ploy to get Blair’s attention. And he thinks that Blair has relapsed. After hounding them with these misconceptions, they both exasperatingly come clean with their individual secrets.

What most struck me were the terms “everything” and “nothing.”  I really think this episode and promo set up Blair to lie to keep “everything.” If it’s Chuck’s baby, she is going to be labeled as an adulteress, losing social standing, prestige, and her fairytale. And though she’ll always love Chuck, they agreed that their love wasn’t right and it led to their unhappiness. While I think they are completely wrong, I understand this hindering her judgement and causing her to act selfishly and wrongly.I am hoping this grave mistake leads her to grow as I do think she will lose that “everything” she has built up.

Chuck has lost everything. He has gone completely numb at the loss of Blair. But what’s amazing is that the man that was afraid of feelings now WANTS his feelings back. He would rather feel the pain of losing Blair than not feel it. “It’s better to have love and lost than never love at all”. He has nothing but he wants it back.

So what is “everything”, what is “nothing”. Chuck and Blair have distorted ideas on this mainly because of their distorted notion that they can’t have it all (an idea mentioned in 4.09 and repeated through Adele’s song), that they can’t make each other happy. When they realize that this is wrong, I firmly believe that the concept of having everything will change. It’s good to lose everything when it’s nothing you want. Blair will realize this and I think through helping Blair, Chuck will find everything he ever wanted.
